Manatee Bags

Project Medium: Screen printing on cotton fabric
Status: Completed 2024

The focus is on the conservation of manatees in the Caribbean waters, exclusively in Belize. The manatees in Belize are endangered because of poaching and other human activity, which range from entanglement in fishing nets to injuries from boat propellers. These marine mammals are protected by the government under the Wildlife Protection Act. One aspect of Belize’s economy is dependent on tourism. I made three different kinds of bags depicting the manatees: a tote bag, a drawstring bag, and a make-up pouch. The bags will serve to inform an audience about manatees and the Wildlife Protection Act.
